Debloat the Hitachi 65QLEDSM20

Android TV 11 · 19 apps on the list · tested on a real set

The Hitachi 65QLEDSM20 is built by MTC on the same platform as CHiQ, RCA and BenQ sets. It ships with Anoki content recognition, which reports what is on screen, and Anoki FAST channels, an ad-supported TV input. It also has recommendation rows on the home screen, a data saver service, an ambient screensaver, and several streaming apps marked as personal choice.

The set was checked on an Australian unit with screenshots and a reboot. After the change, free memory after a boot was about 590 MB, up from about 320 MB on the stock home. TidyTV turns these apps off from your phone over the same Wi-Fi, after saving a backup. Nothing is deleted, and Restore everything brings them back in one tap.

What always stays on

Good to know on this model

How to do it

  1. Turn on developer options On the TV, open Settings › System › About and select the build number 7 times. Then turn on USB debugging, and Network debugging if you see it.
  2. Tap your TV in TidyTV Your phone finds the TV on the Wi-Fi. Tick "Always allow" and press Allow when the TV asks.
  3. Review, then tidy TidyTV saves a backup, shows these apps with switches, and turns off the ones you pick, checking each one.

Questions

Will the voice button still work?

Not if you turn off Google Assistant. The list marks it as personal choice, and turning it off stops the mic button. Leave it on if you use voice.

Will it stop the ads on the home screen?

It turns off the Anoki content recognition and FAST channel apps, the recommendation rows on the stock home, and the partner app auto-install config. Each one can be switched back on in the app.

Can I get the old home screen back?

Yes. Restore everything turns every app back on and puts the old home screen back in one tap.
