Debloat the Super General 55" 4K Smart TV

Android 9 · 15 apps on the list · tested on a real set

This Super General set uses CVTE's own software on Android 9, not Google TV. It ships with an adware cleaner app, ad services that the firmware's cloud pushes silently, and an ad screensaver. It also has a CVTE assistant, a weather app, the Stark app store and a few preloaded browsers.

The list was tested on one set for a day and checked after a reboot. TidyTV turns these apps off from your phone over Wi-Fi, saves a backup first and never deletes anything. The CVTE source menu and TV settings were kept so inputs keep working.

Good to know on this model

Google Play Services shipped turned off by the system on this set. It needs switching on for Google Play to work.
The TV has 1 GB of memory, and the CVTE home screen was replaced with a third-party one in the owner's test.

How to do it

Turn on developer options On the TV, open Settings › System › About and select the build number 7 times. Then turn on USB debugging, and Network debugging if you see it.
Tap your TV in TidyTV Your phone finds the TV on the Wi-Fi. Tick "Always allow" and press Allow when the TV asks.
Review, then tidy TidyTV saves a backup, shows these apps with switches, and turns off the ones you pick, checking each one.

Questions

Will it stop the ads?

It turns off the adware app, the CVTE ad services and the ad screensaver, which are the ad sources on this list.

Does casting still work?

Miracast is kept. The AirScreen casting app is on the list and is switched off.

Can I get the old home screen back?

Yes. Restore everything turns every app back on and puts the CVTE home screen back.
