The Sony BRAVIA KD-55X80J comes with Samba TV, a viewing tracker that recognises what is on screen, Sony data and remote support services, demo and shop mode apps, and preloaded help and music apps. Most owners will never open any of them.
This list was tested on one set, where the dock apps Stremio, Netflix, SmartTube and OTT Navigator were in use. Voice search, Chromecast and firmware updates are kept by choice. Good to know on this model
- This list is new and was tested on one set in a single afternoon. If an app you use stops working, turn it back on in the app.
- The Google setup wizard is in this list, and it can take over the Home button if the stock home screen is turned off later.
How to do it
- Turn on developer options On the TV, open Settings › System › About and select the build number 7 times. Then turn on USB debugging, and Network debugging if you see it.
- Tap your TV in TidyTV Your phone finds the TV on the Wi-Fi. Tick "Always allow" and press Allow when the TV asks.
- Review, then tidy TidyTV saves a backup, shows these apps with switches, and turns off the ones you pick, checking each one.
Questions
Does casting still work?
Yes. Chromecast built-in is kept by choice, so casting from a phone keeps working.
Will the voice button still work?
Yes. Voice search and the Google Assistant parts are kept by choice.
Will it stop the ads on the home screen?
It turns off the Samba TV tracker and the preloaded help and music apps. The list has no entries for the home screen's own rows, so those may still show.
