Debloat the Sony BRAVIA 9 II

Google TV 14 · 14 apps on the list · tested on a real set

This Sony set ships with Samba TV, which fingerprints what is on screen, and several device agents that report usage data. It also has Sony promo apps and a Sony tab on the home screen, plus retail demo apps that shops use. Google's feedback uploader is on the list too.

The list was applied in small batches on 19 October 2026, with a crash-log check after each step. The new home screen was then installed, and Home, the inputs, the Input key and voice were checked the same evening. It has not been lived with for days yet. TidyTV turns the rest off from your phone over Wi-Fi, saves a backup first and never deletes anything.

Apps TidyTV can turn off on the Sony BRAVIA 9 II

Grouped as the tested list groups them. In the app each one has a switch, so you choose. Apps marked your call are extras the list leaves on.

Needed for a custom launcher on Google TV 1

the setup wizard grabs Home once launcherx is disabled. Re-enable it (restore.sh does) before a factory reset. WARNING: if Wi-Fi was set up during the first-run wizard, the saved network belongs to setupwraith and Android DELETES it the moment setupwraith is disabled (wifi log: FRAMEWORK_DISCONNECT reason=DISCONNECT_NETWORK_REMOVED, then "No configured networks"); the TV drops off the network and ADB with it. Check first: `dumpsys wifi | grep -o 'cname=[^ ]*'`. If it is not android.uid.system, forget the network and re-join it in Settings > Network (or use Ethernet) BEFORE disabling this.

Good to know on this model

How to do it

  1. Turn on developer options On the TV, open Settings › System › About and select the build number 7 times. Then turn on USB debugging, and Network debugging if you see it.
  2. Tap your TV in TidyTV Your phone finds the TV on the Wi-Fi. Tick "Always allow" and press Allow when the TV asks.
  3. Review, then tidy TidyTV saves a backup, shows these apps with switches, and turns off the ones you pick, checking each one.

Questions

Will the voice button still work on my Sony BRAVIA 9 II?

Yes. Voice and Gemini are kept on purpose and keep working. The Gemini tab on the stock home screen goes away with that home screen.

Does casting still work?

AirPlay is kept, so iPhones and iPads can still send to the TV. Chromecast built-in is one of the optional apps the list switches off, and you can switch it back on in the app.

Can I get the old home screen back?

Yes. Restore everything turns every app back on and puts the old home screen back, in one tap.
