This 2015 Sony KD-55X8000C is a China-firmware set on Android TV 7 with 1.5 GB of memory. It ships with video apps that start at boot and held about 250 MB, a partner app store that fills the home recommendation row with paid apps, promo feeds, help apps and demo mode. The list has 42 apps.

It was reported on one set after an evening of use. TidyTV turns these off from your phone over Wi-Fi, saves a backup first and never deletes anything. Each app has its own switch.

it provides the com.sony.dtv.b2b.hotelsettings provider that com.android.tv.settings' MainFragment reads while it builds the menu. Disabled, Settings opens to a blank screen (the fragment dies on the missing provider) and HomeKeyService-style Settings buttons look broken. One evening of use found this; keep it enabled.

Good to know on this model

This firmware has no Google Play Services, so there is no Play Store or Google voice.
The Settings menu opens to a blank screen if the hotel mode part is switched off, so it stays on.
Screen mirroring only works with its Wi-Fi Direct parts on. Switching them off leaves the menu entry doing nothing.
The Simple home screen works on this TV. The Apple TV style one needs Android 8 or newer, and this set runs Android 7.

How to do it

Turn on developer options On the TV, open Settings › System › About and select the build number 7 times. Then turn on USB debugging, and Network debugging if you see it.
Tap your TV in TidyTV Your phone finds the TV on the Wi-Fi. Tick "Always allow" and press Allow when the TV asks.
Review, then tidy TidyTV saves a backup, shows these apps with switches, and turns off the ones you pick, checking each one.

Questions

Can I get a new home screen on this TV?

Yes, the Simple one: your apps, your inputs and a clock, with no ad rows. The Apple TV style home screen needs Android 8 or newer, and this set runs Android 7.

Will HDMI still work?

Yes. The Live TV and input app, which also plays every HDMI input, is kept.

Does it have a way back?

Yes. Restore everything in the app turns every app back on in one tap, and puts the old home screen back if you changed it.
