Debloat the Sony BRAVIA KD-55X8509C

Android TV 7.0 · 26 apps on the list · tested on a real set

This 2015 Sony BRAVIA ships with a Discover bar, the Sony Select tile and several Sony recommendation services, plus an auto-installer for partner apps. It also has device agents for remote support and bug reports, a retail demo mode, Sony's i-Manual, Sony Video Unlimited, a Japanese keyboard and a YouView service, along with a voice search app.

The list was applied for one afternoon of use and has not yet been tested for weeks. Used memory went from about 1,144 MB to 991 MB after the list and a restart. The Sony TV app that plays every HDMI input, HDMI control, the remote's pairing and the default keyboard all stay on. TidyTV turns these items off from your phone over Wi-Fi, saves a backup first and deletes nothing.

Questions

Will the voice button still work on my Sony BRAVIA KD-55X8509C?

No. Google voice search is off by the owner's choice in this list, which removes the remote's microphone search.

Does casting still work?

Yes. Chromecast was kept on in the tested setup.

Will it stop the ads on the home screen?

It turns off the Discover bar, the Sony Select tile and the recommendation services that feed the home screen. Restore everything turns them back on in one tap.
