Debloat the Sony BRAVIA KD-55X85J

Google TV 12 · 27 apps on the list · tested on a real set

This South American Sony set ships with Samba TV, which fingerprints what is on screen. It also has Qterics and Sony device agents, a Sony bug-report uploader, and a service that shares viewing context with the home screen's recommendations. Sony promo apps, a Sony tab on the home screen, and retail demo and help apps are on the list too.

This set was checked over wired Ethernet on the day the list was applied, and the owner has not used it for days yet. Home, the remote's Input button and a reboot all worked after the list. Wi-Fi saved during setup was not tested. TidyTV turns the list off from your phone over Wi-Fi, saves a backup first and never deletes anything.

  3. Review, then tidy TidyTV saves a backup, shows these apps with switches, and turns off the ones you pick, checking each one.

Questions

Will the voice button still work on my Sony BRAVIA KD-55X85J?

Yes. The voice assistant is kept on purpose, so it should still work. The Input button on the remote still opens the input switcher.

Does casting still work?

Yes. Chromecast built-in and AirPlay are both kept on purpose.

Will it stop the ads on the home screen?

Partly. It turns off the Sony promo apps, the Sony tab on the home screen and the Samba TV viewing tracker.
